Re: Mayor/Council Approval
No!
For me, it isn't about Ronnie Few.
I don't live in Demopolis, but I know several of the firemen and policeman that faithfully serve the River City. Tommy had no marks against him other than the fact he doesn't play politics, and I'm proud of him for that. With the future plans of adding another fire station in Demopolis, there would have been a whole lot of well-deserved promotions in the ranks had Tommy been tapped as the chief.
So what that the mayor and council went to Washington, D.C. to get a fire chief. I mean what's so special about D.C.? Over half the people there can't do the job they're paid for...I'm thinking of the overwhelming majority of the 537 elected people.
What's even worse? They are going to pay Few much more in salary than Tate requested. Where is the money that will be saved by hiring Few?
Some may think that since I'm from another city that I shouldn't have a voice. However, I spend 95% of my sales tax dollars in Demopolis due to nearly 12-year one-man boycott of businesses in my hometown. The other 5% is spent in Tuscaloosa. Mason & Gardner in Demopolis have done my taxes for nearly 20 years, and they can verify my expenditures. I tithe at Fairhaven Baptist Church. I only buy gas for my pickup in Demopolis. I only go to Ketcham & Dismukes when I'm sick. The only thing I do for Linden is pay my city bill and my ad valorem taxes. Please don't tell me to keep my nose out of Demopolis City business...I'm helping it every single day to exist and run efficiently.
