The "hanging tree" at Lower Pool is supposed to be haunted. Problem with that story is that the area was not really settled during the time that slaves were supposedly hung there.

I've heard another story about that tree though. Something about a bunch of kids in the 70s who broke into camphouses. One of them was found hung at the Hanging Tree ("apparant" suicide), then a few months later his girlfriend was found shot in her car under the same tree ("apparant" suicide). I'm sure that a few of you on this messageboard know some of the names involved in this.

The area around the botanical gardens and the Riverside cemetary is "supposedly" haunted by the ghost of a little girl who was murdered there.

I also heard stories about Lyon Hall being haunted when I was growing up, but I've never heard any actual "story" that was connected to it.

I've got a book that's got some Demopolis stories. I'll see what else I can find.

Oh how we danced and we swallowed the nights for it was all ripe for dreaming
Oh how we danced away all of the lights we've always been out of our minds
