Yes, if you intend to use AVG, then you will need to fully uninstall the Norton Antivirus software. It is generally NOT advisable to use two different antivirus softwares at the same time. One has the potential to think the other is a virus.... then you REALLY got problems!
Thanks...I think that is what's happening now. My Norton is up for renewal but what's already installed is seriously having problems with AVG. I'm just afraid that AVG won't be as reliable. I guess if I'm not satisfied with it I can always go back and reinstall Norton and subscribe again.

What are you running Stick?

I've been a dedicated Norton user for as long as I been fooling with computers. I have looked at AVG, but I'm a firm believer in "You get what you pay for", especially on things like antivirus protection.

I don't like Norton because it is SUCH a memory hog.... but I LOVE that feeling I have knowing my computer is protected!!!

Yep...that's why I'm hesitating on deleting it. I love the secure feeling too but you are right...it is a definite memory hog. Thanks!!

Re: Antivirus

Norton is a resource hog, and not a very good one at that. I've had Norton leave me and several of my customers out in the cold.

I sold Norton in the past, I refuse to sell it anymore.

For the record, the primary problem with running two antivirus programs is when a virus is detected by both, each one tries to lock access from the file, which can cause you a serious problem as AVG won't let Norton or McAfee have access, then M won't let N or A have access, then N won't let M or A have access...

nasty little circle ensues.

Re: Antivirus

I deleted Norton last night. Now all I have is AVG and I'm also running SpyWare (I think that's the name). So far so good. Things seem to be running so much smooter and a tad faster too.

probably Spybot Search & Destroy, or some other spyware detector (AVG has one of those also, but don't know anything about it)

because if you downloaded spyware then that's bad.

Re: Antivirus

I just renewed my Norton and supposedly got a new and improved version. Have more porn pop ups than ever. Also have popup blocker on the earthlink. I never had this with the last version.
