Trojan virus

HELP!!!!
My computer has been infected by a Trojan virus and I can't seem to get it gone. McAfee opens a window and tells me that it is infected and I have ok'd it to delete it also quarantine it but the thing is still there. I followed the path that shows in the McAfee window and I have tried to delete it myself but it will not let me under Program Files. It tells me to go to add and remove but when I try to go there another window pops up and will not let me go into it. I am not what I consider computer saavy but I am not a complete idiot either. Can someone please help me???? Oh, by the way it is something from "winprovirus2007" where this little yellow triangle with a black exclaimation point is in it and it keeps popping a window telling me about the virus and for me to download a "free spyware removal" from them. Yeah right....in the box is the miss-spelled word "unauthorized". I did however find that particular yellow triangle under c:windows\system32 and deleted it but it the mangy thang is still here. Okay computer wiz's what do I do now????

HELP!!!!!

Re: Trojan virus

I had a similar problem. I went to www.majorgeeks.com and downloaded a program called power kill box. All you have to do is type the EXACT location of the file into it and it will permantly delete the file. Just make extra sure that you know the exact location of the file before you delete it.

Re: Trojan virus

You will need to run your virus scan/clean in safe mode. Restart your computer, and hit the F8 key repeatedly while it's booting up until you get the selection screen to boot in safe mode. Once there, click the Mcafee and run a full system scan again and clean anything it finds. Once it's finished, reboot normally.

It would be a good idea to visit http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ and have it scan your puter as well.

Re: Trojan virus

Hey Dave....that didn't quite work.
McAfee found it and I hit the delete button since it said that it could not be cleaned and quarantined a few others but after I rebooted McAfee sent another infected message and the other virus pop up box shows up again too. Also it still will not let me go into Add and Remove Programs to see if I could manually delete from there. Now what do I do??? Lord, this is aggrevating!!!!

Re: Trojan virus

OK, McAfee isn't going to help you. You've been infected with some pretty nasty Malware.

Re: Trojan virus

www.trendmicro.com
They had a free online scan, pretty good one. Haven't used it in a while, but its one of the best.

I've had a few customers bring me PC's with a nasty bug lately, had to pull out all the toys to get rid of the virus. I actually had one come in that was so fried I had to reinstall Windows, which I rarely ever have to do.

Re: Trojan virus---update

Well, I am back up and running by the hardest. The virus name is New Malware.j and my advice to everyone is to shut your computer off until someone that knows just what to do to catch this thing and fast or else as long as your computer is on and running it spreads rapidly! I know that I got it on the 20th and by the 22nd it had just about shut down everything. I could not even come beg for any more help. HaHa This is a serious virus and the guy that worked on my computer said that if I would have waited a day or two longer it would have hit the hard drive. YUK!!
But anyway, I just wanted everyone to be on the look out for this virus that simply does not play.

Re: Trojan virus

I'm kinda curious.

Most viruses will hit specific files, be it the master boot record or antivirus programs, or just the executable files, like explorer.exe, nav32.exe, etc.

I'd like to hear more detail about the one that was suppose to hit your hard drive as I haven't encountered one in all my years that took many steps to fry the system. Generally, its all or nothing, and the really nasty ones don't get very far as they disable the system before they spread. I've run into several that just fry the system and don't spread.
