Oldman, I completely understand where you're coming from. I and fellow coworkers have always had a problem with our marketing departments.

Something that people in the rural areas can do to try, and I mean try, to get things rolling a little faster in their area is draw up a petition. It may be a little work and may feel totally unneccessary but if someone really wants DSL in their area they've got to put it out there with a loud voice. Even getting any businesses in the area to commit to wanting the service would be a major plus. These things just helped for Cuba and have also helped for Belamy and Providence. I for one am one of the many that has had to turn to other alternatives. It is not fair to the people in the rural areas to do without just because they live too far from an office. I have stressed this point to uppermanagement until I was blue in the face.

AT&T has their own plans for their network but, and hopefully I'm not stepping over the lines too far with all of this, if you want DSL, fight for it. Show the company that you're not going to stand back and just deal with the alternatives. Work together as a community and change their minds.
Done that. Got the T shirt.

Its no secret I've been working on wireless, this is why.

Re: Bellsouth/AT&T DSL by the end of the year

I've got a issue I hope some of you computer whizzez can help me with! My office is located 1/2 mile south of the Linden city limits on Hwy 43. I have been approved by the state office to get some kind of high speed internet service, currently I have the sllllllooooowwest service available (PineBelt).
Everyone I have contacted says it is unavailable, from Earthlink, Omega(still trying this one), ATT, Bellsouth, Linden Cablewhatever, AOL, Dish, ...... all of the companies say it is not available, Omega is supposed to be sending someone to my office hopfully this week. Why, or how can a satalite service be unavailable? I figured it would work anywhere??????????????
Please Help!!!

You want Ugly? I know Ugly!!!

Satellite service needs "a clear view of the southern sky" to quote the chick on the DirecTV comercials.

Any little thing in the way can shut it down.

Also, to add, if you are recieving local stations through your satillite provider then make sure the west south west direction is clear. These signals come in from the side of the dish and any obstruction in that direction will take out certain channels (local channels) but not all. I've had to hack a tree down in my parents yard because of this.

There's no place like 127.0.0.1
