Hello all my new and wonderful friends. I am just writing to let y'all know that I have decided to leave Demopolis, and go back home to momma. The owner refuses to fix the AC, is constantly belittling me because business is slow, and blah blah blah. I have 2 little girls that I am missing grow up because I am too busy trying to make sure they have a better life. I've realized that without their momma around, it really won't matter if we're not poor. (and btw we still are living down here!) So, I've looked at some jobs back home, and I'm going to go back to a simple 9-5 job where I can be with my kids and be a mommy. I've taken about as much mental and verbal abuse from the owner that I can, so I've decided to let him have it and see what he can do with it. I'm sure several people that we have staying here right now are not going to come back once we leave...but that's fine with me. That's his problem. He should learn to pay his employees at least minimum wage, and not blame them for his property falling apart because he's too cheap to fix things. I'm trying to make this place better, and hopefully the boost to the rep that I have given it will stick and hold on throughout the next few managers. Good luck everyone! I'll be outta here in 2 weeks! I'll still get on and talk to you guys though! lol!

Re: I'm leaving Demopolis
Bummer!
His loss and the children's gain, I say. NOBODY can say you didn't try. It was easy for us to sit on here and give advice and suggestions, but bottom line. You were live'n the HELL. Take care! One door closes another one opens, if the manager has fixed the hinges....lol CarpetInn has never looked better...jmo If it goes back to the way it was, atleast we have new officers now to tend to it....lol It's been fun, we had a few laughs, and we will always have..."Gazing Balls."...lol GOOD LUCK! Don't apply for a job as a quirky sign putter upper, "Stay and play".....lol We'll leave that job to Dilly. Go Get'em girl....watch out world, Miss Kitty is head'n outta town on the afternoon train. |

Re: I'm leaving Demopolis
I am sad to see you go. I came to Demopolis two years ago and would love to go home closer to family - As a person I need to "grow" and being away from home is one way to do it, out of my "comfort box" I guess you would call it... I have to think "outside the box" to grow....so I am still here....learning more all the time as I am outside my "comfort box" and that I guess is what it takes....just another one of life's challenges. I sure keep busy at work and my husband spends his days fishing (and he says cleaning house but I don't believe him).....
But you having two little ones is a different matter - so take this experience with you and learn from it - if you are ever in the position to have your own motel you know how NOT to treat your employees.... I wish you and your family the best and thank you for all the work you did and the contribution to the community.... take care... Last edited by Ruthie; 06-11-2009 at 13:05 PM. Re: I'm leaving Demopolis
Well, the owner just called me and was begging me to try to make it work out. I have been dealing with false promises of a brand new Hotel in Florida....I don't know what to do. I want to make this place better because I can see it's potential. But I can't continue to work 24/7 for $2.01 an hour and on top of that be degraded every day. He was talking all sweet and nice just now...but I really have to think about it. He completely turned around and was telling me "You have done an excellent job, blah blah blah" So I don't know. My heart says to just go home where I belong. Where my family is, and where I can at least borrow a car and not have to depend on someone to take me somewhere. (my car broke down again after just having it fixed at Mack Tucker's garage) BOO! So I don't know. I was raised better than to leave one job before getting another one. So, I have to seriously think about it and decide what's best for me and my kids. If he would just give me enough raise to pay for day care and hire 1 to 2 more people, then it may work out. But in any case I need a break.

Re: I'm leaving Demopolis
Do what you think is best for you and your family - how does your husband feel about it?
Tell your boss you want everything in writing if he "promised you something".... Good luck, I know you will make the best decision for your family. |

Re: I'm leaving Demopolis
Oh, my husband wants to just leave. Considering our situation (we are going through a divorce and have separate rooms right now even though we still love each other), he could not go to my mother's. She hates him and has threated to drown him several times. So when I move back home, he'll have to go to his sister's and we'll finalize the divorce. We haven't done it because we're so far away right now. But in any case, he wants to leave. He's done and fed up with the crap and he's a little insulted that I'm even considering staying at all. I think my mom is too. She works for him, too, in Athens. And he called her to come up to the Motel and talk to him about me I guess. LOL! My mom wants me to come home just as bad as he wants me to stay. LOL! But seriously, I need to think of my health too. I've become worn down from all the working, lack of sleep, etc. I'm exhausted. I could go to sleep right now. And I'm hurting in places that shouldn't hurt, for example the bottom of my sternum/top of my stomach. What's even there to be hurting inside?! I feel like I've been beat up on a daily basis.

Re: I'm leaving Demopolis
We're going to ask him for a raise. With the summer coming up, we'll be able to compensate that. That way I can send my kids to preschool/daycare. Also, we're going to ask that we revert back to the number of staff we had when we arrived. 1 full time desk clerk to take the brunt off of me, and 1 extra maintenance man, and maybe another housekeeper. Right now I have 1 desk clerk on friday and saturday nights only, 0 maintenance men, and 3 housekeepers and Bekah is leaving tomorrow - so technically 2 housekeepers and sometimes Nicki (my desk clerk) does housekeeping as well. We're severely understaffed. I have enough Housekeepers, but not enough desk help and maintenance help. And as far as having a job thing goes, I understand that! That's why I'm so hesitant. My mom just knows I'll be able to get a job when I get home, but I don't know. I've applied to several jobs and stuff, but I've heard nothing back yet. I guess I'll see what I can get from the owner, and then make a decision. He also has to fix the AC in here.

Re: I'm leaving Demopolis
There are a number of things for you to consider. I understand how you want to get away from all of the stress and get to your Mom. The economy is so bad right now, almost any job is better than no job. I would think long and hard before I gave up even a sorry job with nothing else on the horizon. If you can stick it out awhile longer and give yourself time to secure another job, then it would make sense to leave. I will be praying for you to make the right decision for you and your children. I would listen to the person who told you to get any "new promises" from your boss in writing, though. It's amazing how promises made can be conveniently "forgotten" once things settle back down.

Re: I'm leaving Demopolis
I wish you the very, very best with whatever you decide. The owner of your place needs a verbal spanking. A mama has to do what a mama has to do. I know you didn't ask for my advice, and taking advice is yucky, and giving it is soooooooooo easy. And fun LOL So, here's mine..
Are things as bad as they can get? If yes, leave. If no, stay. Can things be any worse? If no, leave. If yes, stay. Pray on it, Give it to God and let Him handle it. Hang in there.

Re: I'm leaving Demopolis
Yeah I would just make sure I had a job to look forward too before I moved back home sweet heart. I'll pray for you and the kids I wish you the best and if you need anything or help dont be afraid to ask people especially if it's helping with your kids etc. and their well being. I would help out anyway I could have you considered another job here in Demopolis?

Re: I'm leaving Demopolis
Have you applied for any kind of assistance that is offered to lower income families? We all pay taxes that go towards helping people who need a little help now and again. There is no shame in it. Many single income families are well below poverty level and sometimes need a little help in getting their heads above water. All kids need shelter, food, medical care, etc.

Re: I'm leaving Demopolis
The girls have Medicaid, and I'm not so sure if I could get food stamps or not. If I could that would definitely lighten the load alot! We spend up to $200 a week on food. My husband and my kids HAVE to eat about 9 times a day! My kids eat sooo much and they're not fat! One is actually too small! (she was slightly premature) They are just healthy eaters. My husband is just a cow. They eat anything that don't eat them. They each can eat 4 eggs and 2 pieces of bacon for breakfast, yogurt for morning snack, a whole sandwich or 3 hot dogs & pb crackers for lunch, cheese and crackers or sometimes chips or fruit cup or veggies, etc. for afternoon snack; meat, veggies, a big pile of potatoes for dinner; popcorn for evening snack, etc. Not to mention they each can have 1/2 a soda if they're good, juice, milk, and water all day! Rhiannon weighs 37 lbs and she's 4, Addy weighs 22 lbs and she's almost 3! They're normal sized happy healthy kids, but they have their Daddy's appetite and metabolism. I eat half that much and can't lose weight!! So food is a big issue for us. We barely make enough to feed us! lol! I eat the least (mainly because I'm too busy to eat) and I'm the fattest. Lol!
