High speed chase..... teacher murdered?

Anyone know any details about the high speed chase that went through Demopolis today? It passed by my office (near Wal-Mart) in the parking lot at speeds in excess of 50 mph. The male was driving a burgandy colored Dodge Durango.

I've heard from customers/friends that the chase started in Sumter Co. and the suspect was being pursued after shooting and killing his wife at Livingston High School today (she was a Special Ed teacher).

The chase concluded near the McDonals on HWY 80 when the suspect ran underneath an 18 wheeler, presumably he is dead.***

***All this was what I was told and I have no way of knowing if any/all of it is fact or not.

According to reports on Demopolis Times website, the suspect was not injured.

Thanks, I was just about to post that another customer just informed us that the suspect was taken to the hospital by police escort - not sure if it was just a precaution or if he is being treated for injuries.

Edited to add: Just read the Demopolis Times website, it looks like a lot of the original information I was given was false (about a semi being involved etc.) so I hope the part about the teacher being murdered was false as well.

Students at UWA in Livingston are reporting that they have heard that victim was murdered...........but no confirmation.

Victim was dead. Or at least there was no movement. We heard two shots, screams, then three more shots. The latter three were from point-blank range. Students at Livingston High say the teacher's name was Starrick Morgan Gray who was in her 30's.

We have two Livingston High boys who are students at our Gym, and their mother works with the sumter co school board also. She called us last night to confirm the tragedy and to say that many students witnessed this execution. We were told that 'he' came up to the school and basically 'called her outside'.. whether he actualy came IN the building OR if he stayed outside, I am unsure of.. but many students (I assume in her class room) asked her NOT to go!! There could be many reasons WHY she went outside (to protect the students, to calm him down.. etc) This man was obviously mentally unstable.

Interestingly, we actually role-played the same scenario in our school's crisis management committee about 5 years ago. We decided that the teacher should not go outside, but that the police/sheriff must be called plus that the school be placed in lock down for the protection of students and faculty.

However, a lot of schools in the Black Belt are vulnerable to this happening. First, most have very laxed security procedures in place on a daily basis. Second, most faculty members don't like to reveal to co-workers that they are going through difficult domestic problems. Third, we think that it would never happen here. Check your child's school and make sure that they have tough security policies in place. If they don't, volunteer to head up the committee to make sure such a policy gets written and implemented.

Considering this was a domestic dispute that didn't involve the student body / staff as targets, this situation would be same regardless of where she was employed.

I agree that schools themselves have to protect the kids, but if a husband wants to shoot his wife (or vise-versa) their place of employment isn't going to save them--unless they work for the police dept. or US Military.
