If you don't already have one, buy an antivirus program. Norton, McAfee, Panda, whatever, but get one and install it if you don't already have one.
The second thing is to keep your virus definitions updated! Many people think just because they have an antivirus program on their 'puter, they're protected. WRONG! It's like having sex with a condom full of pinholes or a diaphragm full of pinholes. It's dangerous! All the antivirus programs have an update feature. Get the updates, at least once a week. If it has an autoupdate feature (like Norton Antivirus), enable the autoupdate. That way you stay protected (at least till your one year of free antivirus updates runs out).
Another issue is using the Windows Update to keep your Windows Operating System updated with fixes and patches to close the holes these viruses exploit. The Windows Update tab is under the TOOLS menu at the top of your Internet Explorer screen. Be sure to download all critical updates. The any other updates are optional.
