So you wanna see about 40+ hours of my research, testing and staring at a console? Well now's your chance!
In my REAL job, I work in information systems. Part of my assigned task is to ensure that we have some sort of operable and reliable backup system in place. We have a Linux Server that our engineering department uses extensivly. It is seperate from the Main Server and doesn't have it's own tape backup system. But, it needs to be backed up, so I came up with a solution by scripting out a way of archiving, compressing and finally copying the data to the novell server where it could be picked up by our tape backup system.
Sound exciting yet? Just wait, it gets better!
In addition, It has complete logging of its actions and features a degree of failsafing in case something goes wrong!
As an added bonus, There is a handy dandy restore script I came up with that will walk you though the process of restoring a lost file in THREE easy steps! It does the rest for you! It's so exciting, you should be peeing yourself RIGHT NOW!
For a
limited time only, you can check out this system in its entirety! Just download the attachment and open the zip file. Its in a universal, RTF format that can be read by pretty much ANY word processing application out there. To test it out for yourself, just copy and paste the text into the appropriately named files, copy them to a linux machine, (
then modifiy the crap out of them to work on your setup), and execute! Its SO easy it should be illegal!
