Trial delayed in slayings of Fayette officers, dispatcher
Trial delayed in slayings of Fayette officers, dispatcher
January 11, 2005 From the Tuscaloosa News Website FAYETTE | The capital murder trial of Devin Thompson, originally scheduled to begin next week in Florence, has been delayed indefinitely at the request of the state. Circuit Judge James Moore of the 24th Judicial Circuit, which includes Fayette County, ordered the trial continued after District Attorney Chris McCool filed a motion requesting the delay, citing a problem with a witness. A pathologist with the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences who performed autopsies in the case is incapacitated and would be unavailable to testify if the trial began Jan. 18 as originally scheduled, according to a letter from the pathologist’s treating physician/psychologist. Moore ordered the letter sealed so the reasons the unnamed pathologist is incapacitated are not available. Thompson, 19, is accused of shooting to death two Fayette Police officers and a dispatcher in the Fayette Police Department in June 2003 after he was brought there under suspicion of driving a stolen car. Moore has issued a gag order on McCool and other court officials at the request of Thompson’s attorneys, so that none would comment on the recent developments. In August, Moore granted a defense motion to move the trial, but he will still preside. |

Interesting. Glad you posted this, Stickman. I heard something about this today but was unable to post it because of who I got my info from.

Re: Trial delayed in slayings of Fayette officers, dispatcher
Isn't it sickening that this piece of crap even gets a damn trial!!!!!!!!!!While living in Demopolis, Arnold worked for our family business when he was off duty and was a top notch individual; Yet his (and the other officers) lives were taken because this piece of trash punk didn't want to go to jail for something he knew he did wrong. An outright blatant crime as this one deserves NO trial, but yet everyones tax money will pay for his boarding, food, clothing and entertainment while sitting in jail or prison while these officers families are the ones left wondering how to take care of the own well-being.
Just fry his a$$ and save everyones tax money. Better yet, after frying his a$$, send the money to the victims families instead of wasting it on months of wasted trial. Sorry for the venting........... But keep these families in your prayers as they will have to re-live the past when trial gets here....... |

What goes around comes around.......He will get what he deserves...... We just have to wait on lady liberty to prevail.

Heck...I'll probably get more rep points for keeping my mouth shut in this thread than speaking my mind, huh? |

Re: Trial delayed in slayings of Fayette officers, dispatcher
Let it out, I feel better. It was a little hard to try and express my feelings without run-on sentences of profanity, but I made it through, LOL.

Speak your mind demopolite. We have had our dis-agreements but thats why we live in America. I may not agree with you on everything, and if someone else posts something they should be prepared for other comments.
Even I agree he should get the needle, I still beleive in a fair trial. Saddam is not in power here. |
Re: Trial delayed in slayings of Fayette officers, dispatcher
Well, when I've said everything I want to say in one thread, I hate to just repeat it in another.
http://www.demopolislive.com/forums/...ead.php?t=2006 On another note (and back on topic for that matter), the prosecution must be VERY careful about delaying the trial, lest they run into problems with the "speedy trial" provision of the constitution. The accused is still in jail awaiting trial, correct? |
Re: Trial delayed in slayings of Fayette officers, dispatcher
If I am not mistaken there was a no bond. I may be wrong.

Re: Trial delayed in slayings of Fayette officers, dispatcher
I believe your right silver. Seems that is what I remember reading on TuscaloosaNews.com several weeks ago.

Re: Trial delayed in slayings of Fayette officers, dispatcher
Correct to silver and demopolite. He is in Tuscaloosa County Jail under NO BOND.
|
Re: Trial delayed in slayings of Fayette officers, dispatcher
He deserves to go to trial. His victims deserve to have the story told.
|
Re: Trial delayed in slayings of Fayette officers, dispatcher
The families must be devestated at the delays, but I would rather the prosecuter have all his ducks in row than not in a case like this.

Re: Trial delayed in slayings of Fayette officers, dispatcher
Scarily enough, a year and a half is actually a really fast trial.
