Lots Of Great Football This Weekend

The Demopolis Tigers travel to Montgomery to face the undefeated Trinity Wildcats on Friday. Demopolis is 12-0 this year. This is the 3rd round of the state 4A High School playoffs. Kickoff is at 7 P.M. at Boykin Field. In Troy, Al, Marengo Academy will defend their 2001 State title against Southern Academy. Kickoff is at 7 P.M. On Saturday, everyone who’s anyone will be in their favorite chair in front of the T.V. for the Iron Bowl. The game is on CBS and begins at 2:30 p.m. For those of us that live here in Alabama, this is more than a game. It means bragging rights for 364 days of the year. There is no riding the fence in this rivalry; either your for Alabama or your for Auburn. I don’t know of a single sporting event that can put half a state on cloud 9 and the other half in a deep depression in one game. Forget what then folks up north and out west say. This IS the biggest rivalry in sports.

In other news…Former Linden Police Chief Preston Bowden is set to begin his trial Monday. Nov. 25th. He is charged with 10 counts of possession of stolen firearms that he allegedly stole from the Linden Police Dept. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison on each count, and be fined up to $250,000. Bowden allegedly stole the guns from the evidence room, then sold them for personal profit.
A child taking the bus to school at A.L. Johnson was injured by the bus driver. Apparently, the bus driver was hitting the child with a switch when his fingernail cut the child’s face, causing extensive bleeding. The driver is Kelvin Robertson, who also is an employee of the Sheriff’s Dept. Any item used in corporal punishment is not allowed on school buses by law. If this driver doesn’t receive any punishment, someone should get loud

Finally…The nautical floats this year have been completed and are ready for sail. This year’s parade will include 20 floats, 10 of which have been completely redesigned. The daytime parade promises to be great as well. Including a visit from the website crew:-) Construction has also began on the “Gift of Lights” tour, which is scheduled to begin on Nov. 29th. The entire Christmas on the River week will be a tribute to our town.
