Griggers Taking All the “Fun” Out Of Demopolis

“Adult Arcades” ordered to close.

The deadline is February 28th, 2003. D.A. Griggers has issued an order to all “adult” arcades in Marengo, Sumter, and Greene counties to close their doors by February 28th or deal with the authorities. The gaming machines in question are the ones that pay out money, or prizes with a value of $5.00 or more. The thing is, these machines have always been illegal. The City Council could have denied the arcades from the beginning, but chose instead to take in the $500 tax per machine, per year, which totaled in Demopolis $35,000 a year. Gambling addicts found these bootleg casinos a nice substitute in between trips to Mississippi. Only the adult arcades were mentioned in the report. No word on facilities that have the machines but don’t advertise them, such as a local downtown bar here in Demopolis.

The 167th are going overseas.

According to Col. Robert Horton, the Demopolis 167th Guard will be sent overseas after finishing training at Fort Benning. Though there destination is classified, it’s said they’ll either end up in Kuwait or Turkey. The 167th is a unit that specializes in building bridges over bodies of water. The fact that the National Guard is being deployed to these areas pushes the notion that war is not “if” anymore but “when”. If all goes like last time, the troops will be back home grilling for the 4th.

Talk about overkill…

We had 3 fires go unsolved last Halloween. We had a string of vandalism and theft at COTR that has gone unsolved. We have to give it up to our law enforcement though, because the worst of the worst has been caught. Last Sunday, February 2nd, Alneata Richardson was caught selling ONE can of beer for the stock market shifting price of $1.25. She’s been charged with selling without a liquor license and selling alcohol on Sunday in Demopolis. What did it take to make the arrest of the century? Alcohol Beverage Control Agent Randy Estes, Linden Police Officer Aaron Malone, and Demopolis Officers Sgt. Tim Soronen, Sgt. Tim Williams, Leslie Hines, Paul Foster, and David Heaton. No trial date has been set, but it’s predicted to be bigger than the O.J. trial

And this is why they're too busy to patrol residential neighborhoods. A big ol thumbs up and a pat on the back.....Oh, maybe they all deserve a raise for their hard work. Wonder how many it would have taken if the can would've cost $2.00? I bet the whole force coulda got overtime for that one!!!!!
