Say “Yes” To the Landfill
Let’s face facts- Perry Co., and more specifically Uniontown, needs something to bring in some revenue. If a landfill can do what they say it can financially, then they should be glad to receive it. This is a town who’s only draw is a annual festival of drugs, stolen goods, and pornography wrapped up under the pretense it’s a “religious celebration”.
So what else can Uniontown offer? There are some nice houses in the area. I’ve seen them with “for sale” signs up for ages now. So why can’t the owners sell these mansion size homes for the price of a double-wide? Location, location, location. Folks would rather live in a trailer park in Demopolis than live in a palace in Uniontown. It’s basically impossible to create jobs in a town that no one wants to live in. Crime has been so bad there the town has become a punch line. Kids have their bikes stolen While they are riding them. Seniors in wheelchairs are “chair-jacked” in their own neighborhoods. Drugs are so bad there, you can fail a drug test simply by walking barefoot through town. Schools change classes to the sounds of gun shots instead of school bells.
Bottom line, this is probably the only industry this town can attract. I think they could put up with a few bad smells if they can see improvement throughout the town. No one in Demopolis complained about the smells from Gulf States. Look how that turned out.
