For the second week in a row, the Democrat-Reporter reports false information on the front page. Fresh from being wrong about his knowledge of the Code of Alabama, Sutton attempted to divert attention by accusing Demopolis Police Chief Charles Avery of withholding arrest records from the press. The arrest in question involved probation officer Joe Johnson. The Democrat went as far as to make the statement, “Notable omissions in the past police reports supplied to the press have involved Demopolis city employees and their relatives or ‘friends’”. It turns out, the arrest occurred in Linden,, which was handled by the Marengo County Sheriff’s Dept. The Sheriff’s Dept. doesn’t do arrest reports unless the person is incarcerated, so Demopolis Police never received a copy of the arrest report. All facts involved were verified by Jeff Manuel, public safety director. I’m starting to wonder who even takes Goodloe seriously anymore. He should be lucky his demographic remains back-wood communities that probably don’t even receive other newspapers, or even the internet.
