Attention! Liability Insurance for Gun Owners to the tune of $1 Mil?

Whoa! Stop the press! Is this some kind of way of taking our 2nd Amendment Rights away by calling it something else? Who can afford this $1 million dollar liability insurance that Illinois is trying to put on the table for all gun owners? I know this link is going to ruffle a few feathers, but it is the article itself that I would like for yall to take a stab at...

Illinois Bill Would Require Gun Owners to Buy $1M in Liability Insurance

This was an interesting link as well and can't wait to see this Documentary. This link is not sensitive to Liberals/Democrats or Wall Street Bankers..and especially not obama fans.

Re: Liability Insurance for Gun Owners to the tune of $1 Mil?

Who cares about the insurance? The second part of the Bill is the scary part.
"A gun owner would be responsible after a firearm is lost or stolen until the loss or theft is reported to the police department or sheriff of the jurisdiction in which the owner resides."

So, if my house is burglarized and they steal my gun and kill you with it; I can be charged. That's jacked up.
What if they break into my house and kill me with my own gun? Would I be charged with murdering myself?

This might sound a little silly, but can you please link to a news site or a newspaper web site that has an article about this? I googled it and could only find information on different blogs and forums about this certain bill. No newspapers or other credible information is out there about this. The website that the information is found on is very slanted toward one certain opinion. I would rather read about from a journalist writing a news article rather than a person whose livelihood is centered around bashing a certain political view.

I wish Alabama would/could be a Sovereign State, along with any other state that doesn't want to fall under the impending Dictatorship of America. Freedom in so many ways as we know it is history.

Well, here it is in the insurance journal's website. If you don't want to believe in what they are writing then I guess you'll just have to wait like the rest of the liberals.

How do you know that it's "just another piece of fear mongering propaganda?" This came from an insurance journal site for insurance companies. If you know that it is just propaganda, then can you prove that? Is there a site I have missed that debunks this?

This is what the website has posted, so if it isn't true, are the people just lying and falsifying information on a specific person, say like Rep. Kenneth Dunkin?

Illinois Bill Would Require Gun Owners to Buy $1M in Liability Insurance

February 18, 2009

An Illinois state lawmaker is proposing that gun owners be required to carry personal liability insurance of at least $1 million.

Rep. Kenneth Dunkin's bill seeks to amend the state's Firearm Owners Identification Card Act to provides that any person who owns a firearm in the state maintain a $1 million or higher policy of liability insurance "specifically covering any damages resulting from negligent or willful acts involving the use of such firearm while it is owned by such person."

A gun owner would be responsible after a firearm is lost or stolen until the loss or theft is reported to the police department or sheriff of the jurisdiction in which the owner resides.

Police would be empowered to pull the gun license of anyone who does not submit evidence of having the required insurance.

The measure is now in the House Rules Committee.

Re: Liability Insurance for Gun Owners to the tune of $1 Mil?

About Insurance Journal

Mark Wells Sr.
Mark Wells Jr.Insurance Journal, considered the most read national property and casualty publication for independent insurance agents and brokers, kicked off its legacy some time in 1923. While the exact date of the magazine's first issue remains a mystery, what the Insurance Journal has become is no secret.

In 1936, during the Great Depression, Mark A. Wells Sr., then just 27 years old, purchased the magazine and immediately embarked on a top-to-bottom redesign. Following Mark A. Wells Sr.'s death in 1970, Mark Wells Jr. took over the magazine and remains its publisher today.

Under his direction, the Insurance Journal has grown from a regional Southern California magazine with 4,000 readers to one of the most well respected insurance trade publications in the country with a bi-weekly circulation of more than 40,000 and readers in every state.

InsuranceJournal.com was created in 1997 to provide regional, national and international news and information to the insurance industry. Re-launched in April 2000, InsuranceJournal.com uses its 80 years of insurance expertise to provide the industry real-time news and analysis. In addition, the site includes a number of tools for insurance agents and brokers around the world. Among them are directories detailing available excess & surplus lines markets, programs and workers’ compensation markets. The site also features classified advertising, a news archive and dozens of audio and video interviews with industry leaders from across the world. The numbers speak for themselves—more than 140,000 insurance professionals read more than 2.4 million pages of Insurance Journal Online every month.

This may not be mainstream journalism but from their website, it appears to be a major insurance magazine and website.

Sounds like another money making skeem for the insurance companies to me. They are trying to find ways to "stimulate" themselves.
A good safe or keep the firearm with you all the time sounds like the best insurance,,,,,If someone trys to take mine off me I will be the responsible party, the only way they will take it will be once it's unloaded from the barrel.

Not the insurance companies IMHO, it's the government trying to be in everyone's business, especially if they own a gun. This is just a stepping stone to worse things.

And to answer you Dave, I really have no idea but I did go to Alfa's website and was going to try and search so I could get a quote but nothing showed up under "Gun Liability." I didn't try any further cause it's 3:33 am lol and I am going back to bed...

Im guessing it will sort of be like when the government legalized machine guns and marijuana in the earlier 1900's ( I can not remember the exact years). You had to obtain a stamp or license, but to get the stamp or license you had to show the government you had the weapon or drugs. But it was illegal to have them without the license, so when people brought things in to get the stamps or license, they would be arrested or have the items confiscated.

What insurance group will actually offer that kind of liabilty policy? This is another preposterous attack on our Bill of Rights

I called this fear mongering propaganda because there is virtually no chance of this bill passing. This link will give more information about the bill and it chances of passing.
