i was reading back in the archives abt your ghost stories....i'm not sure abt the hanging tree @ lower pool being haunted, we always heard that but my friends & i had no haunted experiences there but i do know the story of the girls death, there was a group of teens that robbed a particular camphouse several times in greene county where high stakes poker games were being played illegally..the sponsors/players of the poker games hired an armed guard, a teen was killed, a few weeks later his girlfriend was found in her car under the hanging tree with 2 bullet holes in her chest, weapon in car also, apparent suicide?? the hanging tree was their hangout, if you wanted to find them they were usually there.........there's so much more to the story but..............haunted???

the story on the mrdered girl @ riverside cemetary....yes & sadly a young girl was raped & murdered by the crypt in the back on the river, they hunted for days for the man, when they found him he had been hiding above them in the trees east of the crypt.....as always there is more to the story but it is such a truly terrible story that this info will have to suffice or you can get the story from the demopolis times......
both of these stories were in the news both happened somewhere around 1967-1970, if my memory serves me well.....

i use to live on main street & was rumored that a ghost was in our house but i never saw or heard anything unusual in the many years i lived there...........

i hope i haven't offended anyone but these are some of the "unspoken" truths to these urban legands.......

the story of the cotton gin being haunted...never heard of any hauntings or sighings, actually this is the first i have ever heard but yes, one of the owners of the cotton gin did commit suicide in the ruins of the old warehouses that lined the river....

Here is some more info on "Met State". Actually, there were 350 bodies buried there.....I believe the 1000 was at Danvers State Hospital in Mass. Also Met State closed in 92, not 93.

Metropolitan State Hospital (Massachusetts)

The Metropolitan State Hospital was an American public hospital for the mentally ill, located in the city of Waltham, Massachusetts. The Gaebler Children's Center for mentally ill youths was located on the grounds of the hospital.

It was closed in January 1992 as a result of the state's cost-cutting policy of closing its mental hospitals and moving patients into private care (see privatization). Since being closed, it has become a popular destination for "urban explorers" as well as curious locals, despite security measures and safety risks. As of 2005, the large complex of buildings is being gradually demolished.

It should not be confused with the Metropolitan State Hospital in California.

Patient Murder Scandal! In 1978, Metropolitan State patient Anne Marie Davee was murdered by another patient, Melvin W. Wilson. Wilson dismembered Davee's body and kept seven of her teeth which were discovered in his possession by employees of the hospital. Despite this discovery and its obvious implications, no action was taken against Wilson until Massachusettes State Senator Sen. Jack Backman (D-Brookline) led a Senate investigation into the case along with 19 other reports of negligence by state mental health workers. On August 12, 1980 Wilson led investigators to at least three burial sites where he put pieces of Davee's body. Much of the material evidence in the case had been destroyed or gone missing. This evidence included a "hut" in the woods where Davee and Wilson met, clothes and even sheets which hospital employees discovered the day after her disappearance. Nearly two months after her murder, another search by hospital staff yielded pieces of Davee's clothing and belongings along with a hatchet, the supposed murder weapon.

See also "All of God's Little Angel's," a documentary/dead website. In the early 1960's, Met State had an active children's ward. Before the Davee/Wilson case, more than two dozen preteens died and were buried on the grounds.
