Chef quits South Park
Isaac Hayes will be Chef no more (from Salon):

Isaac Hayes, chef no more: Isaac Hayes announced yesterday that he's quitting his gig as the voice of Chef on "South Park" because he objects to the show's religious satire. "There is a place in this world for satire, but there is a time when satire ends and intolerance and bigotry towards religious beliefs of others begins. Religious beliefs are sacred to people, and at all times should be respected and honored. As a civil rights activist of the past 40 years, I cannot support a show that disrespects those beliefs and practices."
"South Park" co-creator Matt Stone says the split might have something to do with Hayes' belonging to the Church of Scientology. "This has nothing to do with intolerance and bigotry and everything to do with the fact that Isaac Hayes is a Scientologist and that we recently featured Scientology in an episode of 'South Park,'" said Stone. "In 10 years and over 150 episodes of 'South Park,' Isaac never had a problem making fun of Christians, Muslims, Mormons and Jews. He got a sudden case of religious sensitivity when it was his religion featured on the show. To bring the civil rights struggle into this is just a non sequitur. Of course we will release Isaac from his contract and we wish him well."
Stone's partner Trey Parker said they'd actually put off making fun of Scientology out of respect for Hayes. But after Penn Jillette was reportedly banned from poking fun at the religion on his Showtime series "Bull****," they decided it was time, and last November aired "Trapped in the Closet," in which one of the "South Park" kids became a Scientology savior and Tom Cruise got locked in a closet. "Finally, we just had to tell Isaac, 'Dude, we totally love working with you, and this is nothing personal, it's just we're 'South Park,' and if we don't do this, we're belittling everything else we've ripped on,'" said Parker. |

I've always seen South Park as rather equal opportunity in making fun of religion...and personally I thought that the Scientology episode was rather funny. Well, at least Isaac Hayes will have those Chocolate Salty Balls to keep him company in retirement.

Re: Chef quits South Park
he got all sensitive about them ripping on his religion... i hope they create a horrible death scene for his character. They MUST not get a replacement chef. Unless of course, it's Samuel L Jackson.

I'm saddened -- it was Chef who taught me how to make sweet luv to a woman down by the fire.

Re: Chef quits South Park
AND!!!! South Park -- Trapped in the Closet is airing TOMORROW NIGHT! wonder if this has anything to do with the current story??? :-)
They did the same thing with the "Bloody Mary" episode... with the statue of mary & the new pope & the blood and where it came from on the statue.. like the pope would be able to figure that out!... when all the controversy was out about this episode, they repeated it as soon as possible. They are definately in-your-face kind of guys...

I think Isaac Hayes is the new B.D.I.U, Jon Edwards has been replaced.

Re: Chef quits South Park
Well I just think this is a case of I'll make fun of you, but you can't make fun of me. Knowing the South Park guys, they'll keep the same character but just change the voice....Like his voice was that way forever. I think that will be great...
