With the Mayor being such an important position, why would anyone wait until the last day to qualify. My opinion is, if they were serious about doing the job, they should have announced earlier on. That goes for any election, not just the mayor's race. It's not like they didn't know the election was coming up. And it's not because they are both black, just last minute.

Runoff is inevitable. There's no way 1 out of 7 candidates can get the margin needed not to have a runoff.

If I had to guess, Congress switched without knowing Armstead was going to run. After what happened to George Baldwin, I think Armstead isn't waiting to get voted off the County Commission; I just hope voters have sense enough not to give him the top job here.

I agree with Dave about a run-off. There's no way with seven candidates not to have one. I may be wrong but I think that Mitchell Congress only qualified after Armstead had. Does anyone remember, I think, a history of Congress running against Armstead? For Commission, maybe?

With seven candidates in the mix, a run-off will be definite.

I want to remind everyone that Freddie Armistead is the County Commissioner who pushed the 1 cent sales tax on the people of Marengo County (including the citizens of Demopolis). He is the one who ramrodded it through the Alabama Legislature and he voted for it. Please remember this when you go to the polls to select a Mayor for Demopolis.

The only other candidate I will comment on is Stephen Gutshall. If the man can't manage a girls soccer league, how in the world would anyone with any sense expect him to be able to manage an entire city? Definitely NOT a pick for Mayor.

Everybody else in the race is fair game in my book.
