Bush Gets No Respect From Chicks' Maines

NEW YORK -- The Dixie Chicks' Natalie Maines apologized for disrespecting President Bush during a London concert in 2003. But now, she's taking it back. "I don't feel that way anymore," she told Time magazine for its issue hitting newsstands Monday. "I don't feel he is owed any respect whatsoever."
As war in Iraq loomed, Maines told the London audience: "Just so you know, we're ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas."
The remarks led to death threats and a backlash from other country stars, including a high-profile spat with Toby Keith. It also stalled what until then had been the group's smashingly successful career.
Bandmate Emily Robinson said she knew right away the remark wouldn't be taken lightly and got "hot from my head to my toes."
"It wasn't that I didn't agree with her 100 percent; it was just, 'Oh, this is going to stir something up,'" she told Time.
For band member Martie Maguire, the controversy was a blessing in disguise.
"I'd rather have a small following of really cool people who get it, who will grow with us as we grow and are fans for life, than people that have us in their five-disc changer with Reba McEntire and Toby Keith," Maguire said. "We don't want those kinds of fans. They limit what you can do."
The Chicks' hits include "Landslide," "Goodbye Earl" and "Wide Open Spaces." Their new album, "Taking the Long Way," is due out May 23. The first single is "Not Ready to Make Nice."

No, I will not buy their new album. I haven't listened to the Dixie Chicks since the incident in 2003. I am all about free speech, but when a person goes to a foreign country and insults our president, I lose respect. Bash Bush all you want in America, but don't incite and add to another country's hatred toward our country and president. I think she is only taking the apology back because she knows that his approval ratings have dropped. Therefore she probably thinks she will get fans back now.

Artists are so out-spoken these days on all kinds of subjects. This subject in particular just seemed to hit home w/ everyone because our country was right in the middle of a war. I didn't agree w/ what she said, but opinions are like *****holes...everyone has one.

I respect their talent & music, but I've never been a big "Chicks" fan anyway. I guess I'll wait to see how many hits the CD produces before or if Ipurchase it.

I am not a fan of the disrepect they showed to President Bush. Although, I am and always was a loyal fan to their music.
Yes I will be buying their new album. Solely for my music enjoyment.

I like their music a lot. However, they always seemed like a lot of fun before they politicized themselves. It took the fun out of the music. If they want to be liberals with a smaller fan base, that is their right. They won't sell nearly as many records though.

I have to wonder if Emily and Marti really love Natalie's big mouth or if they just feel that they have to support her? Natalie has a great voice, but Emily and Marti are the true talents. It is kind of sad that Natalie's big mouth has hindered the musical brilliance of the other two.

I have never like her voice. Never liked their music. But, even if I did I would not buy their music because of her disrespect of our President. I happen to believe you can be opinionated without being down right Anti-American.

It amazes me that someone like Natalie, in the entertainment buisness, would make the statements she has made. If I understand her statement, she would rather play to a small group of fans rather than to a large group that doesn't respect her opinion. I hope her wishes are granted and that she gets her very small fan base.
I do respect her right to have an opinion, however, I do not support her opinion. I will not be buying her cd.
