Early Morning Fire at The Depot Restauant
Linden Fire Department and Marengo County Fire & Rescue was paged out around 3:40 am this morning to The Depot Restaurant. Not sure how the fire started, but the Depot burned to the ground. Both departments poured thousands of gallons of water on the restaurant, but no hope to put it out.

They Wicks who are the owners were asleep in the apartment that connects to the restaurant. What I was told that the Marengo County Sheriff's Department was comming through and saw the fire and reported it. The apartment was saved, but how much damage was done don't know at this time. The Democrat Reporter was there and it will either make the front page today or next week. So it will make the D'live this morning before it hits the paper

The building was built out of good old heart pine wood. The wood was though to be at least 100 years old at the least.
Well my prayers are with with the Wicks on the lost. They served great hambugers and lunches also. Not sure if there going to rebuild or not at this time.

Sorry that I didn't have no way of taking pictures, but someone with the police department should have have those.

That's ashame. Linden really has no where else to sit down and have a meal. Good thing no one was hurt.

I drove by this a.m....total loss...apartment and all. The city is pushing the remnants into a pile to finish burning it. The Wicks are fine. Jim was using the barbeque pit to cook boston butts and had gone to take a nap in his recliner...an hour later the rescue squad woke him up and told him to get out. Fire started around 3 a.m. Linden will sure miss the Depot.

Yes they definitely will miss the Depot. I hate it. This will really pick up business for Tina's and Mr. Johnny's though.

I don't really look for them to rebuild because last I heard they were trying to sell the place so they could move back to Louisiana.

I heard they were trying to sell the Depot to buy the Ace Hardware store in Linden. I'll track that rumor down.

Looks like the Linden Rotary Club will have to find a new place to meet. Also they have to buy the items they left at the Depot to conduct meetings, banner, flag and etc. A lot of history went up in flames.

The D-R had not meet it's deadline and the fire should be on the front page of this weeks edition.

Depot Restaurant burned down
I just heard this afternoon from my Mom who works in the courthouse in Linden that the Depot Restaurant caught on fire early this morning and completely burnt down.
To be or not to be, that is the question.

The apartment that was added to the restaurant was saved. The Wicks was able to save some of there personal items. After the fire department, Jim and Gelean were able to get those items they let it burn the rest of the way down.

I believe the fire marshal came down this afternoon to check to see what cause the fire. At this time still not sure what the cause was. The Red Cross was helping Jim and Gelean to get there medication that they loss in the fire.

Two of the Marengo County Sheriff's Deputies were on there way from the south on Hwy 69 of Linden. Officer Keith Jordan looked back to his left when he and Officer Ricky Hall came up to intersecion of Hwy 43 and 69 south in Linden and saw the cloud of smoke and was going to check it out.

So hats off to Deputy Keith Jordan and Deputy Ricky Hall for there saving two lives and risking there lives to save Jim and Gelean Wicks. :clap:
