Lately I have noticed three puppies on the roadside in my vicinity. These are obviously females and the owner doesn't want to, cannot, would not, will not, or just will not accept responsibility, for the puppies. But to dump them off in the wild, thinking that someone else will take them in, or they can make it on their own, is just plain SICK.

Re: Pet dumping
I will never be able to understand how a person of reasonable intelligence could do tthat. Wether to an innocent animal or to their children. What is our country coming to?

Re: Pet dumping
That just pisses me off and makes me physically ill!! If you don't want responsiblity of puppies than have your dogs fixed rather than letting them run around staying pregnant all the time. Gosh that makes me so mad!! If you see them you can call me and I'll help take them to the pound where at least they can be cared for. Or you can call me when you see someone dumping them-I'll take care of that!

Re: Pet dumping
We have had a lot of animals dumped near our property lately. Every week we will have a couple of stray cats & homeless dogs/puppies. I wish I could catch the idiot that thinks it is OK to Dump helpless animals in an area that they will starve to death and suffer.
We try to find homes for them or take them to the pound. It breaks my heart to see the little animals suffer at the hand of people. People that dump/abuse animals are not real People inside.....where it counts!!!! |

Re: Pet dumping
I too have noticed this as being a problem. I travel from Demopolis to Grove Hill and back every day. Its not just people dumping animals that bother me, its also people who allow their pets to roam freely without worrying about them. For example:
There is a area on Rangeline Road where some people have a bunch of dogs. They keep most of them on chains but some are allowed to roam freely. I wound up hitting one by accident a while ago and I to this day feel terrible about it. Why have so many dogs if you can't take care of them? Also, in this same area about a month ago, I saw a dead puppy in the road. The next day I saw the momma dog with another puppy in tow just wandering around. Yesterday, a Chichiua sp? ran in front of me in Linden. He lives at one of those houses thats on that strip right next to Pine Crest. I pulled in to the neighborhood to try and find his owner but the house he kept going to had no one at home. So I guess they let him freely roam Linden and Hwy43 until they get home from work. Dixons Mills! Don't even get me started about Dixon's Mills. Hardly a day passes when I don't see stray dogs roaming all over the sides of the road, sick skinny looking dogs. Last Friday, I saw the skinniest most pitiful looking dog coming home between Grove Hill and Thomasville. I tried to stop and give the poor thing some dog food I had in my car but it was too skiddish and ran off. So yes I know what yall are talking about, and as someone who loves animals it really breaks my heart. Only thing is, I really don't know what the answer is. Individuals need to take responsibility to avoid unwanted pets from being born. I know that in some places, funds are set up to help pay for the cost of having the dogs or cats fixed. We have a cat problem too, they just survive a lot better than dogs do.

Re: Pet dumping
Is there and animal shelter in linden or demopolis at all ??? Tuscaloosa has t-town paws and metro animal shelter but at metro it is funded from tax dollars and if the animals are not adopted by individuals then t-town paws tries to save them and find homes before they end up "put down" .
i have adopted a cat and two dogs from metro animal shelter and your pet has to be "fixed" before you can take them home ....

Re: Pet dumping
We are having that problem too. Someone dropped two puppies near my house and so constuction was going on, so a nice soul helped them! But my husband is on the look out for a person that keeps dropping off wild kittens from the same parents! I feel sorry for this person if he ever chatches them! It would be different if you could pet or handle them, then we could find them a home, but wild we cann't really help them that much! They really need to have the parent cats FIXED!

Re: Pet dumping
I'll agree to that. We have a kitten that showed up at my house. She was real skinny at first but has started putting on weight and doing well.

Re: Pet dumping
Word has obviously gotten around what a sucker I am. First, some kind of hunting dog "adopted" us, he's a nice dog, never leaves the yard except to relieve himself, but digs huge, deep holes. Even though I advertised I had him, no one claimed him. I pet, feed and worm him.Monday, a tall female German shepard showed up. She's very skinny but extremely friendly. She'll have to go to the pound, I can't feed her, this woman and any other stray that shows up. All of these dogs ( I've left out a few) have collars but no name tag. Where is the "dog-napper" when one really needs him ?

Re: Pet dumping
Well, at least they didn't put the dog out in your driveway with you standing at the front door watching. Man, some people will do anything. The girl got out of the car and let the dog out, I stepped on the poarch and asked why she was putting that dog in my drive way, it wasn't mine. She said it wasn't hers either. She got back in the car and I yelled at the dog and she opened the car door and let it back in. I don't know what she did with it.

Re: Pet dumping
Poor dog. She probably took it somewhere else and dumped it. Saddlebum, maybe the german shepard likes your other dog and thats why she is there. I saw a light color german shepard near Mrs. Allen's house a while back, you may want to check with her and see if its hers.
