Digital Cameras
Hey guys! I am behind on the times and have put off getting a digital camera for too long. Any suggestions? I just want a good camera that can take pics of my kid and family. How many megapixels do I need? I don't know if I will be getting a printer as well haven't decided as for now mostly just taking them to wal mart and developing.

Oh I will also be using them for closeups for before and after shots of MK makeovers.

I use Nikon Coolpix and like it a lot. It's great for taking family pictures especially. Most of my pictures of on my site I took with it so you can tell the quality. It does great for close ups and has a zoom that's really nice. It uses the little cards that you can just plug into a port on your computer and download them directly on the computer for editing and saving.

I have used several different brands (Sony, Kodak, Hewlett Packard, Olympus). I liked the Olympus the best. You just need to talk to people and get their opinions and maybe read reviews on them. I have found things on some cameras that I would never think of when buying. The flash on the Kodak model I used just didn't get the job done. I had to go in and crop or enhance every picture I took inside. Make sure you get enough memory where you can take more than 10-12 pictures before having to download them.

i have a little mustek camera my dad ordered off of hsn...it takes video and pics...only works good in good lighting though cause it doesnt have a flash...its really tiny too...the pics dont look good on the camera but once you plug it into the computer they look good...also you can plug it directly into your tv to look at the pics or watch the videos and the quality of both the sound and the picture is good...i like it

I have a Vivitar. It is 3.1 megapixels, compact, takes pretty good photos, and best of all it was reasonably priced. The main downfall I have found with it is it didnt hold many pictures but I fixed that by purchaseing a memory card.
What is life if you don't live it?

I have a Minolta Z3. It is 4 megapixels and has a 12X optical zoom. Look for optical zoom as digital zoom only increases the size of each pixel and degrades quality. My cam has a 4X digital zoom in addition to the optical zoom. The zooms are multiplicitive, meaning multiply them together. 12X optical * 4X digital = 48X total. Look around for reviews on the internet and shop around. Prices vary by a lot. I bought mine from butterflyphoto.com.

I have a Fuji Finepix 2800z. It has 6x optical, uses compact flash and can recored audio and 1 minute video clips with sound. Very nicely priced these days. Most of the pics in the gallery I took with this camera.

A vote for Kodak Easyshare cameras. With the dock, you press a button and it takes care of file transfer.
From reasonable to expensive, depending on your needs.
The early bird gets the worm...

Hopefully they've gotten better since the one I owned. The viewfinder was basically useless--coudn't center an image without using the screen.

Is the Minolta Dimage Z2 comparable? I think it said it had 10x opitcal zoom and 4x digital zoom.
