Ya know...I've been thinkin'...I don't get to redecorate my house every 4 or 8 years...heck-far, I can't even afford new refridgerator magnets!! And I gotta wonder...just how much of taxpayers' money goes to redecorate the White House?? Looks to me like they could leave it be, or if they just gotta redecorate, let'em do outta their own pockets. And all those fancy dinners they throw. No tellin' how many thousands of dollars are spent for those dinners. I say let'em order Chinese or pizza. Better yet, let'em serve up some beans an' cornbread...let 'em eat the way the majority of the people in this country eat. I watched a documentary of the White House on TV the other day, and I gotta say...LET THE BUDGET CUTS START AT THE DAMN WHITE HOUSE!!! They are livin' mighty high on th' hog there, servin' up all those fancy smancy dinners, while most of the rest of us are shoppin' the dollar stores for canned goods, an' checkin' sales papers for the best buy on bologna an' hot dogs. Sheesh...they got rugs in that place that cost more than my whole trailer. Somehow, it just don't seem right. Okay...I reckon I'm through now. Just wanted to blow off some steam.

Yea, I think it shows extremely poor taste in re-decorating the White House when the economy is in such shambles. JMHO

They haven't just now started redecorating the white house, its been happening for years and will continue to happen for each NEW president.

Not to mention that the White House is maintained by a group known as the White House Historical Association. They just paid for Bush's new $493,000 china set.

Yeah. The Laura Bush china snafu right at the exit pissed me off.

It hurt to the bones seeing all the hoopla at all the balls and parties going on after the inauguration. Shame on whomever I can shame on for spending embarrassing amounts of money on these kinds of things when people are losing jobs, can't afford heat, food or medicine. How dare they rub people's noses in this crap?

Let us not hear about designers and diamonds and parties and high society. Let us hear how they are sacrificing to help others besides giving lip service.

I am not talking republican/democrat president or former president. I'm talking respect for what is going on in our country.

Well if you didn't say it in that statement, it shouldn't be said at all. I don't understand it myself. Like JustMona and a whole lot of other people in this country, it's all we can do to put food on the table and pay the power bill. All of the upity people that make all the serious money, they wouldn't know how to survive WHEN this country goes to even bigger pile of crap. Let em' keep spending all this money, they'll learn. The only bad thing about it is, that eveyone else will have to pay for their stupidity. Speaking for my family and me, Counrty Boys will Survive. I wanna sit back and watch.

I think i remember correctly in that the budget for remodeling is set @ $100,000 but because of these troubled economic times the Obamas are only spending 80% of that, or ONLY $80k!

(not really sure how many sq ft are in the White HOuse)

I know that. Why do ya think I'm raisin' cane? It should be stopped....immediately. It should have been stopped way before now. Kinda ticks me off that I'm tryin' to decide whether I should have dried beans or canned peas for supper, while the First Lady (and I mean ANY First Lady) is tryin' to decide which tapestry to purchase and what color silk sheets to put on the beds.

Oh, well...that makes sense. 'Cause what we could get a whole dollar's worth of last week, we can only get 80 cents worth of this week! I mean...c'mon...can ya imagine gettin' $80,000 to redecorate your house with? That's like....7 years of income for my husband and me...combined!!

You GO, duddlebug!!! Bet we won't see da Prez an' First Lady out here on this river at th' first crack of a chilly dawn fishin' for enough catfish an' crappie to fill up the family freezer!! OR fightin' th' cold up in a tree stand tryin' to bag enough venison to see 'em through the winter. An' I don't see a tractor plowin' up th' White House lawn so's they can chance a heat stroke tryin' to grow enough vegetables to put on the table either. But you can bet your bottom dollar (if ya still have one) that they'll be dinin' on lobster, fresh salmon, truffles an' fancy pastries (thank God for Lil' Debbie!!).

And that, my friend, is about the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of. I say let'em buy dishes at Wal-Mart, the way the rest of us do. Come to think of it...I'd LOVE to be able to afford a new set of dishes from Wal-Mart, but I can't. My dishes are mix-matched pieces from yard sales and thrift stores. But ya know what? Those beans and cornbread serve up on'em just fine!!
