Unknown Public Servants

We in Demopolis, as in most other towns and cities in Alabama, owe a debt of gratitude to a lot of people who serve our city without salary and without a lot of recognition. For example, Arthur Taylor heads our Utility Board and, according to his good friend and mine, Bill Traeger, he does a great job.

I know that Will Baker, who lives on Wallace Harper Drive where I once lived, has been a mainstay on the Planning Commission for a long time, and does a great job for us on that important commission.

John Cox Webb heads the Industrial Development Board, and I know from conversations with John Cox that he is diligently working to further develop our industrial base in Demopolis.

There are many others who give of their time and talents to public service in our fine town. These are just some who I know and admire for their service.

So, the next time that you see Arthur, Will, John Cox or some other member of our boards and commissions, please let them know that you appreciate the valuable services that they are providing for us here in Demopolis, at no cost to the taxpayers.

Re: Unknown Public Servants

There are others like Drew Johnson who gives a lot of time to different local groups. Most of the people like Mike Black and Jim Parr who make COTR happen are volunteers. The leaders of the Rotary, Lions, Pilot International, Kiwanis, Masons, and other civic organizations support numerous community projects. Many of our business people volunteer many hours to projects as well as funding. Most of our community events would simply not happen if it was not for the volunteers.
