The Death of .......
The Death of the Drive-in movie. Last night Dunk and myself were talking and the subject of Drive-in movies came about. We both wondered why you don't see these anymore ? So I did some research and found out at their peak there were 72 open drive-ins in the state of alabama, with demopolis having its very own. I think I remember the sturcture over by ed's used cars, but I could be wrong. There are now only 9 of these still open in our state, and 6 of them are located in "RV" parks. My question is, why did they go away ? The technology is available to make Drive-ins alot better. Do you think if we had one in Demopolis would it make it ? Would it bring back the "good ole days" that everybody refers to ? What is your input on the subject ?
The closest one to us is Cheyenne Drive-In, in Cleaveland, Al above Birmingham.

We have several drive-in's around us, up here in the big GA. They just built a new one last year in Trenton, Ga. You can even get out of your cars and sit on the lawn or whatever. There is also one in Henager, Al. Which is so close, that I would consider it GA. I have yet to go to any, but I plan to someday. The prices are very reasonable. I believe the one in Henager is $5-$8 a truck load. So, pile em' up and move on out =) ...

By the way, these drive-ins are very popular and go all year round. They only show new releases, the very same that are shown in walk-in theaters. The pricing is by car, not by person. So, everyone 'round here crams in. There is generally a double-feature. They show simultaneously. Just turn your car around to see the other.

$10 a car/truck/van load. Its my opinion that the money is made at concessions. The better the food, the more money spent. The better the selection, the more money spent at awful movies MMMMMM drive-in burgers and onion rings and real oldfashioned cherry cokes and milk duds. oh! and nachos with jalepenos!

My parents actually live about 7 miles from this drive-in, the one in Cleaveland, and they are always showing the newest movies. We have always said that we want to go, but never have b/c when we go there we are always doing something else. We need to sometimes. I think that it would be cool to have one in Demopolis.

Yes we do need to go. My mother worked at the drive-in in Demopolis. She was the hostess. They used to have contests and other things going on before the movie.

I ran the projector when the last movie was shown at the Grove Drive In. The name of the movie was Jaws II. That was a long time ago and it wass fun too.
