I agree with all that 100%. I know people have the RIGHT to protest, but I PERSONALLY still think that it is wrong. The Good Lord let us be born in this country and we should support it no matter what!

I can't agree that no one should protest anything simply because they were born in the US. A lot of injustices have been righted through protest, not just war.

I have a slightly different take on Kerry and his opposition to the Veitnam War. I feel it's wrong to lump him into the same catagory as most of the war protesters in that era. Unlike Bush, Clinton, etc., Kerry did fight for his country when given the opportunity. To go over there and do his duty for his country, even though he didn't agree with it, makes him more of an American than someone that found ways to skip out on the war, yet still supported it verbally.

I still don't know who I would vote for, though. Kerry has flip-flopped on many issues, so it's hard to know exactly where he stands.

I'm with you on Kerry's wishy-washiness, Dave. I stand behind anyone's freedoms of speech and protest, even though I don't protest personally.

One of my problems with Kerry is the same as the problem I had with the Dixie Chicks. If you want to speak out when it is unpopular...GO FOR IT!! But if you don't have the guts to stand behind those actions, I will hold it against you. Kerry fought for our country... God bless him. He came back and protested against what he felt was an unjust war...No problem. But now he is making an issue out of his service to the country...wait a minute...I thought you didn't BELIEVE in that service, Kerry.

Like someone pointed out in an earlier post, a few years ago they Democrats didn't want to bring out war records (or lack thereof) because it would hurt them. Now that it can help them they are all for it. Talk about your wishy-washiness.

Of course, using the military to your advantage isn't just for the Democrats. Dubya's infamous victory speech aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln on May 1st 2003 still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Considering more troops have died SINCE the speech was given.

Demopolite give me a quote where Kerry says he didnt believe in the service he provided our country when asked to so. You say he didnt believe in that service but i would have to disagree. I believe he served his country well even though he didnt truly believe in the cause he was fighting for. To me this makes him more of a patriot. He fought and served his country to the best of his ability when so many who spoke out in favor of war were getting favors from Papa ie: Our President. His country called and Kerry answered! This to me is the eptiome of Patriotism.

Trust me, I'm not dissing Kerry's war record. As you say...his country called and he answered. Many people in this country did not do that...either dodging the draft, or relying on favoritism and nepotism to keep them out of harms way. I also respect him for having the guts to stand up against what he felt was an unjust war.

But now that the heat is on, why duck and cover. Why doesn't he come out once and for all and say. "I fought, I protested, and I'm damn proud that I did both."

Basically, I've yet to hear him stand up and say that he still believes that all of his actions during the Vietnam era - both his service and his protest - were the right thing to do.
