I want to take it a step farther about wearing a cross under your shirt, as mentioned in an earlier post by Sarge. I have a really good friend that goes to Demopolis High School and he wore a shirt that had JESUS on it. Mr. Roberts told him he could not wear it anymore. I really really disagree with it. I dont understand. I have a picture of a shirt here that I'm thinking about getting for him. What do ya'll think about the shirt and the descision to not let him wear the shirt? I have to give a BIIIIG THUMBS DOWN TO THE DESCISION!

What the hell happened to freedom of speech and freedom of religion? I mean isnt this what this country was founded on? If i wont to pray in a public place i will absolutely do so regardeless what i said. Down with political correctness and up with the freedoms guarenteed by the constitution and its admendments

Have any of you good people ever listened to Steve and DC? Its a popular radio morning show well i am sure many of you have heard of them but to get to the point Steve has a saying about the political correctness of this country. He puts it like this "it is the pussification of America"

I might be wrong, but the action of not letting a student wear a Jesus t-shirt is a misinterpretation of the law. School aren't allowed to organize the students in prayer or other religious activities. A student wearing a t-shirt like that isn;t a school-sponsored or even encouraged activity, so it shouldn't apply. If they wanted to get technical about it, rich kids shouldn't be able to wear $50 shirts when the poor can't possibly afford them, or the boys should be allowed to cross-dress if they see it fit (otherwise girl-only outfits should be banned).

I totally agree with Scott-- this is a freedom of speech issue, not a God-in-school issue. The next step will be school uniforms, hair-cut restrictions, etc., until we have a school full of clones. God forbid anyone have their own personality.

I believe that is what is wrong with alot of children now. they don't learn at home good morals and religion and we can't teach it at school anymore either. What did happen to freedom of speach and religion????????????

That was my point in the drivers license story. We, Americans, have to amend our laws so that those, who protested about not being able to cover their head for their picture, all in the name of religous freedom, can practice theirs. At the same we, again us Americans, cannot even practice ours, whatever one that is. Other freedoms are also being lost. The Boy Scouts are under attack now because they don't allow gays. Now gay groups are suing local governments that allows the Boy Scout free or low cost use of public facilities or land. In order to join the VFW a new member has to sign an obligation statement "In the presence of Almighty God..." . Will the ACLU be after us next?

We truly has the "tail wagging the dog" movement in our country today. The majority does not want gay marriages, liberal judges are doing all they can to make it law. The same for prayer in schools, abortion and basically decent principle our country was founded on. MTV and CBS pushed the envelope during the Super Bowl to see how far they could go on broadcast TV. A breast bared for one and a half seconds has been talked more than one of the best Super Bowls to date. There is a place and time to show some skin, half-time at the Super Bowl isn't. The silent majority had better start speaking up or we are going to lose more freedoms that we take for granted.

I honestly think over half of Demopolis High School needs to hear the Gospel Of Jesus Christ! Apparently we need something, and i think that Jesus is the answer

This really infuriates me. I moved to Demopolis to have a good public school system for my children, but they will certainly not continue to attend if administrative decisions like this one continue. I have taught in public school for a dozen years and I have always supported them, but we will be homeschooling or praying hard for a Christian academy in Demopolis if things like this continue to happen in Demopolis City Schools. Very bad move, Mr. Roberts! And to think, I had been so impressed with you and your school!

Isnt Alabama Prep a Christian School, I know they teach Biblical things?

West Alabama Prep has a Christian curriculum called Abeka. It is excellent. However. even though I believe WAP is a good alternative, it is still not primarily a Christian academy. I was considering sending my children there, so I spoke with someone who had taught there, and she said it was "primarily not a Christian school." All Titans, I am by no means bashing your school! I think the improvements made there in the past year have been fantastic. However, I have heard some people whose children attend West Alabama Prep voice their own desire for a primarily Christian academy with only Christian teachers. A primarily Christian academy would not only incorporate Christian ideals and standards, it would be founded upon it.

MA also teaches Abeka. I want to say in order to be a Christian school you have to be affliated with a church.

I love our constitution, and I love the establishment clause that keeps government from imposing an institutional religion on Americans. But I also love the free exercise clause that keeps government from interfering with my personal convictions.

BIG JIM, tell your friend to wear the shirt, and not to take it off. If school administration punishes him, sue the suckers.

I believe that the Demopolis City School system is the only public school system in Marengo county that does not have a school uniform policy.

Well demopolite i would agree with most everything you said with the exception that Big Jim's friend sue someone. Man this is a very big problem in this country. Everyone sues everyone else for no freakinbg reason. What the young person should do is wear the garment refuse to take it off and if he suffers any reprecussions then it should be take before the school board, but suing is not the answer.
