I think Petrino would be a good choice. Also maybe Butch Davis and have you heard of Jim Grobe? He is the head coach at Wake and is doing a great job. There are a lot of good choices out there.
This one would be a good coach and I think would be a slap in the face to Auburn. Bobby Petrino.
Why would that choice be a slap in the face of Auburn?
Maybe a slap in the face of the four Auburn people (three of whom no longer are...wish we could get rid of the fourth) who sneaked around to try to get him before the end of 2003. As Granddaddy once said, "Your date looks stunning, but I know what mine does when I take her home!" As for a program rebuilder and establisher, I'll take Tubbs over Bobby anyday
Petrino will definitely be looking for a struggling big name program in order to take its helm. Alabama, Penn State, Florida State, UCLA, Nebraska, and Miami would probably be on HIS short list.
The will of God prevails. In great contests each party claims to act in accordance with the will of God. Both may be, but one must be, wrong. - Abraham Lincoln, 1862
Wasn't Broyles hanging out with Moses when he parted the Red Sea? I commend Broyles for wanting to find a cure for alzheimer's, the disease that took his wife Barbara. However, he needs to let someone else step in as AD. As for Bobby Petrino, he is going to look elsewhere, outside the SEC. to my knowledge, he recently signed an extension to his contract, though I'm not sure what buyout clauses are in there or not.
Grobe would be a good candidate. Look at what he's done with the material he has at Wake Forest.

If there is a change (and I don't think there will be, unless Bryant,Jr. catches Shula with his wife) Rich Rodriguez from West Va would be a good choice.
The same thing could happen to Shula that happened to Cutcliffe at Ole Miss. The administration--i.e. AD Pete Boone, who needs to be shown the door and Chancellor Robert Khayat--wanted Cutcliffe to get rid of some assistants, which he would not do.
Shula has to make some changes on the offensive staff.
If it comes to showing Shula the door, Alabama needs to get away from the longstanding mindset of getting a "homer," someone with Alabama ties, especially ties to "The Bear." There a few if any in coaching that had affiliations with coach Bryant either as an assistant or player or both.
Sometimes, it is not good to hire someone "within the family," sometimes.
However, learn from the "Coach Fran" experience as well as Mike Price.
Find a young up-and-coming D-1 offensive or defensive coordinator, or a coach at a mid-major school that is having success.
The first option that should be considered is Shula getting a new offensive coordinator. Again, if he fails to make changes, out the door he goes.
What if Alabama beats LSU at Tiger Stadium, then Auburn? What then?

If we could get rid of Nutt and our AD, Broyles, ya can have them both!
Nutt was crazy not to go to Nebraska. He should remember that all coaches, good or bad, will eventually get run off by Broyles. (Holtz, Hatfield) those are the only ones I remember. Maybe Arkansas is just one of those places that it just aint never gonna happen (football that is).
