GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) - Steve Spurrier felt his time with the Florida Gators had passed.

After spending more than a week thinking about it, Spurrier decided Thursday to remove his name from consideration to replace Ron Zook.
"He said he's done his thing here and he just thinks it's better for us to go find a coach who will be here for the next 10 or 15 years," athletic director Jeremy Foley said.

Spurrier really decided he'd rather take the millions he made in the NFL and at Florida continue to play golf everyday. I believe he is holding out for the AD job.

As head coach of the Redskins, Spurrier has proven he cannot coach in the pros. A college coach can motivate college players in ways a pro coach can't. Taking away playing time, suspension of games and taking away scholarships are among ways to get college players to perform better. Players need these things to get noticed by th pros. Pro players just say "If you don't like my playing then trade me".

Sarge i have to disagree. All spurrier did with the skins is prove even an evil genius cant win there. Shottenhiemer couldnt and now gibbs looks just as bad or worse and he is a HOF coach

Redskins follow the same fate as the Baltimore Orioles. They spend tons of money on the wrong players that can never compete as a "team".

Spurrier is a great college coach. He'll probably go to a conference he can win easily (not the SEC).
