Great Football Player and Man

If you ever wonder what grat football players do after they retire. Here is a story about a person that I have always looked up to and admired. I had the privildge to know on a personal level. Marty Lyons is his name. He played for Alabama in the late 70's and then to the next level for the New York Jets. He was and still is one of the nicest guys I ever met. He is a class guy. He took what he learned from the late great Bear Bryant. He onece told me that he wanted to be known for not just what he did on the football field but off the field also. He is living up to what he said. He was selected to NFL man of the year. The highest award for off the field community work. So check this youtube out and you too will see what an amazing person he is and know that there is still good people in the world that care.

I remember when he and his ex-wife Kelly and son lived just outside of Demopolis. He is a great guy. They use to come by Bob's Place all the time just to chat. One 4th of July, he invited all the Jets players over and my parents sang for them.

Thanks for posting. Spoke with his son about six months ago at the Red Barn. He seems to be just as genuine a person as his father is.
