Simeon Castille's trial on charges of disorderly conduct stemming from his arrest on the strip on August 19th for "playing in the street at 2am" resulted in a guilty verdict against him. Tuscaloosa Municipal Court Judge Madeline Hollingsworth found Castille guilty on the disorderly conduct charge in her court today. Castille was sentenced to a $150 fine. His attorney plans to appeal the case to the Circuit Court for jury trial.
Maybe someone should explain what disorderly conduct means to Mr. Castille. Or does everyone think it's ok to be loud and yell obscenities at 2 am.
I agree with you aubie. Just pay the fine and move on. There's more to life than filling up our court system to prove a point.
Psalms 91:1-2
"He who dwells in he secret place of the Most High
shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say
of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in
Him I will trust."

I think Daddy Castille can handle the cost. Have you ever thought he's fighting it on priniciple? I mean it has been a he said/he said story from the start. Because it was THE STRIP, it might be a typical assumption that he was in the wrong...and maybe he used bad judgement. It's not for me to decide; I wasn't there and I'm neither judge nor juror. Principle and clearing my name would make sense to me if I TRULY thought I were innocent.

I guess that's why the Castille family is willing to shell out the big $$$ for the attorney's fees and a jury trial... so they can have the satisfaction of hearing 12 jurors come back with a verdict vs. one municipal court judge.
Question is, when the 12 member jury comes back with a guilty verdict AND a punishment harsher than a simple $150 fine (which is entirely possible), will the Castille family be satisfied with THAT ruling? Will they seek to appeal a guilty verdict of the jury in a higher court, or will they wish they had kept their mouths shut, paid the $150 fine, and let Simeon Castille take it as a lesson learned the hard way?
Who knows? Your guess is just as good as mine here.
Principle... when you're standing your stupid self out in the middle of traffic at 2am acting like a fool thug gansta wannabe, disrupting traffic, you might actually get treated like one when the Po-Po comes along. DUH!

Have you ever been on the strip? It's full of college kids running around acting like idiots. If yelling at your friends in a car and walking out into the STOPPED traffic (because you can't actually DRIVE down the Strip at night...it's a parking lot) makes you a "fool thug gansta wannabe" then I was damn sure one in college...AND IN LAW SCHOOL.
In fact, so is practically every single college student at any SEC school (or any OTHER school) on the weekend.
The FACT is that this "incident" took place in front of an establishment that is famous for excluding black males, that the area in front of this "venue" has a lot of fights because of this, that the cops hang around that area because there are a lot of fights, and that everyone on the Strip who actually SAW the incident says it was overkill on the cops part because he THOUGHT that Castille was starting a fight, then didn't want to admit that he was wrong.
If you think that horseplay on the Strip warrants arrest as a "fool thug gansta wannabe", then perhaps you ought to saddle up, get your honorary deputy badge, ride on over to Auburn and arrest all of those "fool thug gansta wannabes" who are vandalizing public property (!), disrupting traffic (!), and committing arson (!) at Toomer's Corner!!!!1!1
Oh WAAAAAIIIIITT....that's right....they're just kids having fun.
...and another thing...if it were Brandon Cox doing the exact thing, would he be a "fool thug gansta wannabe"? How about J.P. Wilson?

Oh how we danced and we swallowed the nights for it was all ripe for dreaming
Oh how we danced away all of the lights we've always been out of our minds
