The Mitchell Report

Baseball's report on steroid use comes out today. Early reports say that many all stars and mvp will be named including Roger Clements. This will be a very bad day for baseball probably the worst since the Black Sox scandal in the early 1900's. ESPN will provide coverage most of the afternoon. Any thoughts from baseball fans?

Re: The Mitchell Report

This report will redefine the steroid era, but the question is: What power will it wield? If the offenses took place before steroids were banned, what then? What of the players not named who took substances? Would knowing owners be charged as co-conspirators, or also be punished by MLB as the players are?

Cooperation wasn't exactly rampant with the investigation, so its accuracy is automatically brought to question. Can the sources who did cooperate be trusted, and should the entire report be entrusted with the information provided by those people?

Lots of "what ifs" and "so whats" that I see becoming associated with the report. It was a good idea in theory, and at least, sent an alarm throughout baseball. Now, we need to see what baseball will do with this information, scattered and sketchy though it may be.

The report will be made public within the hour. Here we go.

Re: The Mitchell Report

81Tiger, I also fear that little will become of this because it is far more reaching than just Barry Bonds, who BTW is no longer the lone villain.

You bring up a very good question. Are the owners and managers to be held responsible as well? I think that they should.

An Alabama public high school lost 7 key football players for two games due to their school board's policy of randomly testing their student-athletes. It devastated their season. And yet, I really wish that we had that policy as well. Regardless of whether it costs victories in athletics or not, the point is to save the lives of kids.

Performance-based drug use is rampant among high schoolers because they say, "The pros do it!" These performance drugs have horrible side-effects: most of which effect heart conditions and emotional-tempermental attitudes. I've opposed use for those primary reasons.

However, I generally get the reply from people that I'm imposing morality on others. That's OK. I'll accept the blame of being a morality-controller on this issue because my Christian morals cause me to care about the future health of other people.

Milton Bradley???
You mean all my boardgames are on steroids???

Seriously, I think that this list is a mere fraction of the real problem.

Re: The Mitchell Report

Unfortunely, the list of the players who didn't use steroids may be shorter. My hope is that this mess is cleaned up, no matter what it takes. And in all sports too. Is it amusing to the others of you that they're giving golf six months to clean up?! Steroids really mess up some of the high school kids.

Re: The Mitchell Report

leagle where did that list come from? I havent seen Brady Anderson, Johnny Damon, Albert Pujol, Kyle Farnsworth, Juan Gonzalez, or Mark Prior listed anywhere else. Just curious did you read it? I started but fell asleep shortly thereafter

Re: The Mitchell Report

The more we hear about the way evidence was gathered on these players, it invites a long, long legal fiasco. Some of the evidence consisted of word of mouth from at least four people, some of whom may have ulterior motives. The supposed guilt of the players on this list, is not necessarily written in concrete. Attorneys will make a circus out of this....and unfortunately, that's their job.
