Coach pays T-ball player to hurt another player

I read about this in SI. A 27 year old t-ball coach from Pittsburgh offered $25 to a 8 year old to hurt a mentally disable teammate. The reason behind this was the coach didn't want the little boy to be on the field. All players must a least play three innings.Police reports state that the boy was hit in the head and in the groining. This is a truely sad story. No matter if a child is the worst player in the world or a disable child giving it his best everbody has the right to play.I hope they lock this coach up and never let him coach young kids again.

Re: Coach pays T-ball player to hurt another player

Well, I have something close to that story that happend here in Demopolis. I was told by a person that has a child that played t-ball here was the best player in the leauge was not picked for allstars because the rest of the players did not like the way she looked. To me that is as bad as this child getting hurt by another player because the coach told them to. Who was the adult that was in charge of seeing this differnt child here in demopolis not being picked? Who ever it is sould be done just like the coach of kid that hit the other player with the bat. BTW--- This was told to me by a person that had a child on the allstars team. So dont say they were mad because their kid didn't make allstars.

Re: Coach pays T-ball player to hurt another player

T-ball does not have all stars but I bet it was the darlings and I know several children that were better than some on the allstar team that should have been picked. It is a tough decision as it is and I hate to see politics or just plain idiocy be a factor in chosing a team.

I agree Aufan, not picking a child simply because they don't look good is ridiculous and as hurtful to the child as if they had been hit. I would love to talk with whoever decided on that misjustice! Seems like it's not only the kids that need to be taught common curtesy and moral behavior with sports.

Re: Coach pays T-ball player to hurt another player

And people wonder why children act the way they do. Whatever happened to playing for fun and winning isn't everything. It's sad when the children playing act more mature than the grownups who are supposed to be their role models.

Some people complain because God put thorns on the roses; others praise Him because He put roses among the thorns

Re: Coach pays T-ball player to hurt another player

I agree with Onehotmama. Look at the examples we have for our childeren. Then we wonder why they act the way they do. If the coach can do it they figure they can too. I know that the two incidents weren't related but it does make you wonder what kind of a moron was teaching the kids that let them not pick the girl because they didn't like the way she looked. As for the coach that offered 25 dollars to some child to hit another one. He should be locked up and charged with conspiring to assault by hire. It is the same thing as hiring some one to kill another they just don't kill in this case. What an fool he is.

Re: Coach pays T-ball player to hurt another player

I have always felt like all-stars were unjustly choosen for the most part....and it's not just in Demopolis. You always knew that the coaches kids were going to make it whether they deserved to or not and then it seemed like politics played in to the choosing of the rest of the team. I'm not saying that this is always true, but in many instances it plays out to be true.

I certainly don't know the answer to this, but I wish that they could come up with another system in choosing who makes the all-star team. Just curious to see if anyone else has an opinion on how the teams could be choosen a little more fairly...

Re: Coach pays T-ball player to hurt another player

All Stars are chosen by ALL coaches in that particular league. Each coach votes for 12 players and the top 12 players are the All Stars. As for the child that was not chosen because "the other players did not like the way she looked," that is completely bogus. The children have no idea who will be chosen for All Stars ahead of time. If I can assume that I know which child you are talking about, I was told that the child's mother said that her health condition would not allow her to withstand the heat and would possibly not be able to participate in practices and/or games. As for there being better players on the league that should have made All Stars, there always are. But the Darlings had an excellent All Star season winning their first two games and losing the second two- farther than any other Darling team in the past. This is from a friend of BOHNTR, not BOHNTR himself.

Re: Coach pays T-ball player to hurt another player

After having watched many, many all-star teams in the past(I can speak for the boys' teams this year, not the girls'), I think I can fairly say that this year's teams were more fairly and correctly chosen than any other year I have been involved in. Of course, there are still a couple of players in one of my son's leagues that I felt should have made it. However, after watching the games, I saw every kid contribute and now don't know who I would have replaced for those two that I felt were shorted. There are always more than 13 players who are good enough. One of my son's teams won the sub-district and placed 2nd in the area, playing a total of 8 games. I felt like the team was well-chosen, but I think they would have done just as well with those other two who didn't make it.
Of course, I just realized that
