It also depends on how well Aaron Boone does in the spring I think. Phillips is an infielder by trade. He's not going to take jobs from Giambi, Soriano, or Jeter. Boone isn't a hitter so much as a defensive 2nd baseman converted to 3rd base, which is Phillips position. Phillips problem is he plays for Stienbrenner, who doesn't normally like to start minor leages unless they are from Japan or he's flat out of options.

Hey statpat! How about an update on how/where people from Marengo County is doing in the Pros and College. Like Roy Rogers, Theo, Andy, Anthony Harris and others. Don't forget the girls too like the ones on the softball team who is or will receive college scholarships to play and where. May be a good story for the Times. Lots of research.
Andy's future is riding mainly on his ability to stay healthy. The reports all say he has the tools for the show(maybe not in NY).
Jason was signed dy the Tigers to be "an every day shortstop"(from a very credible source) which is different than he was percived as an utility man for the Rays. Jason has always been a great hitter day in and day out but has had problems in the past coming off the bench or just playing 1 out of 10 games. I think this change will push him over the top into the Bigs for a long stint or hopefully a long career.
Word is Aaron Boone (Yankee's 3B) has blown out his knee playing basketball and will likely miss the season. According to some reports, Drew Hinson, his likely replacement, doesn't want to play baseball anymore and will most likely not report to Yankees training camp. It's possible if Phillips shows out this spring he might have a shot at least as a backup if the Yankees sign another 3B, and maybe start depending on how well he does.

I heard this from a close friend of Andy's, He has been called to the Yankees spring camp not the minor league camp so they will be evaluating him for the 25 man roster for the season.
Yes Andy has been called to the NY Yankees Training Camp. He was at CHurch Sunday and we jokingly asked if he wanted to play a pikcup game of basketball. I was also under the impression the Boone was given the red slip because in a clause in his contract he was not suppose to participate in ANY other sports AT ALL. Andy was at Church yesterday wiht his new bride but I didn;t get a chance to talk to him personally.
